fast question (just in regards to the engine).
what engine is in the T1600? full engine specs please.
any known problems, parts available in canada?

might have a chance to pic one up used, I like diesel and may convert a tractor over.

600$ abit steep? (comes with t1600 but the tranny is shot)

Have you tried getting info on the Kubota website?

of course. even searched MTF and google.
model T1600 dosnt show up on Kubota ( from everything I tried) I did find some press releases for T's but they were higher numbers.

google all it would tell me is Kubota diesel powered. I think one said 2 cyl.

should I just go back to kubota and look at their current products and base it off their smallest engine? I do see threads on the T1700 so I was hoping those owners would have an idea.

Theres not much at tractordata.com either, http://www.tractordata.com/lawn-tractors/000/3/7/372-kubota-t1600.html

At 13.5hp I'd say it's a two cylinder and it's hp output is pretty close the the BX1500's 15hp and it's a very reliable two cylinder. You can't buy a good diesel engine for $600 so that would be a good deal but as far as the used one in that T1600, that would be a gamble.
Good luck

thank you volfandt.
he claims that it has been well maintained and serviced thru the years. only getting rid of it because the tranny is shot (known problem it seem for this model)

the 600$ is canadian so its more like 550$usd.
I can see it run also so thats a plus.

waiting to hear back from him. been awhile.

Kubota T1600 diesel 1100 hours

Hi, all, it's Sept. 2012, I'm a new guy here at MyTractorForum, born in the Dark Ages, 'handy with tools' but not a genuine wrencher/mechanic.
I believe machines and tools are “Toys For Grown-up Boys”.
I live on a place I don't own with 3 acres of lawn with scattered obstacles all over (gardens, shrubs, trees), plus more acres of rough ground we cut wide walking paths through.
I've been cutting this for many years with a Husq 21” walk-behind (yes) and a Troy-Bilt 24” walk-behind commercial unit on the rougher ground.
I am not kidding. 21" walk-behind. It all gets long, I can't keep up.

Later, in a few months, we want to get a tough machine like (dream) Deere X740 or (dream) Kubota GR2120, strong for the rough stuff, clean for lawn.

BUT *Right Now* at least a basic lawn tractor for a few months while we shop for a “dream machine”.
We have a couple of genuine small-engine mechanics nearby, lucky us.
So:
Craigslist right now (September 2012) has a
Kubota T1600HST diesel, 1,100 hours for $1,500.
Owner says runs great, recent service, all fluids change, new battery, new ignition switch, new computer box, 2 new front tires.
Only info on Kubota.com is un-dated press release, I cannot find years built.
Is T1600 a series, not exact model? There's a T1670 on CompactTractorReview.
Maybe T1600 / T1670 is earlier model of current T1880? (Kubota.com 2012 has a T1880, Kohler gas 18hp, (no diesel option) 42" $3,598., so maybe that was price range new on the T1600).

Questions:
Is $1,500 a reasonable price?
1,100 hours diesel ok?
What should I check on the tractor, to verify what the owner says is right?

Many thanks, nice to be here with folks who know stuff!
