My H is the pits to start after the engine is warm. Like if you are working with it and have to stop and turn it off it just does not want to turn over. It just turns very slowly like a dead battery. If I let it cool down about 10 min it will turn over and start up. If I jump it with 12 volts it will start right up. It is charging the 6 volt battery. I am thinking the starter is getting hot, and drawing more amperage , but not sure. Anyone else experience this on the old 6 volt systems????

Thanks
Steve

What gauge are the battery cables..?? If they are standard automotive type/size, like 4 gauge, they need to be a lot bigger, like 1/0.

Some NAPA's, farm machinery dealers, or heavy duty trucks parts places can make you up a set. They will be pricey, but well worth it. If your battery is the proper size, and up to snuff, it will turn over like jumping it with 12V.

I have 2/0 on it now which are quite a bit bigger than the standard 12 volt ones from a car store.
When I first start the tractor it starts up just fine. It only gives me grief after it is hot or has been cutting grass. If it accidently shuts off for any reason, and you try to start it right away it will not start, until after you let her cool down about 5-10 min. It is strange....

Is the timing right? Has the starter been checked??? Have YOU taken any voltage readings to verify the connections under load?

I have a similar issue with my H on 6 volt. Never investigated it as its just a for fun tractor and doesn't really get used for much work anymore. What did you figure out on it?
