I know a place you could try for a fan, he might even have a metal 4 blade one, e-mail me [email protected] if I can help.
Could you please PM me,my email doesn't work right. I can't believe none of
my other Bolens brothers don't have any other information on fans for large frames!!:greendr: thanks
I'm considering installing two 12V fans. The kind used in computers. I've been looking at some available in an electronics catalog. Plenty of room on either side of that pump...maybe mounting them to the frame side rails....
I'm having this same question. I'm assuming none of the plastic fans for later models work on the 1250-1455 etc. I'll be tackling this in the count weeks and would love to see a relatively elegant solution that doesn't require a plastic computer fan.
That would depend on which hydro you are talking about. The Eaton and U type Sundstrand hydros have cooling fins for the fans to supply cooling air to. The inline type Sundstrands have a smooth cast iron case that can't really make much use of cooling air flow unless the temperature is up there.

It's coming up to winter time. Cooling a hydro is an academic exercise at this time of year for most operators. Unless there is physical damage in the system, overheating is not going to happen. This gives you time to get a fan or figure out an alternative by spring.

What kind of interest do you think there is for some new replacement blades? Through work I have a contact with a fan manufacturer. We've briefly discussed a project involving making replacements.

IIRC when the other forum member made a batch, he sold about 50 of them at the bat. I wonder if there would be as much interest seeing as his failed so quickly and people may be nervous to purchase.

I see a couple options. Make a direct copy of the oem blade. Slightly modify the design, or there's a possibility of using an existing "plastic" fan, which I believe is actually Glass reinforced polypropylene, and using a machined hub to fit our hydro input shaft.

So if I was to move forward with this... how many do you think there would be interest for?

If there is enough interest, I could send my OEM blade to see what they think of it and possible pricing.

Let me know what you guys think.

I think there would be an interest for the common 1724027 and the Big large frame ones 1738427

I would go with plastic , with todays technologies I'm sure they have a more flexible material you could go with, we've seen what happens with the metal ones and could be why Bolens phased out the early metal ones found on the 1250.

I know where ther was a NOS metal one at,price was $70.00 or so,if your interested let me know,I'll get you there ph number, the new plastic ones have been doing over $50.00
I have used the plastic fan with the alum. hub, it locks on the yoke with two set screws and the fan can be replaced for $ 15.00 if need be, I bought extra fan with my order 5 years ago and it still sits on the shelf, my two cents.
from what I gathered:

1250-1886 uses 1716 006 4 blade metal fan
HT18/HT20 uses 1724-027 4 blade plastic fan
HT23 uses 1738427 & 1736067 5 blade plastic fan

The ones I was referring to are the 4 blade metal fan. IIRC the metal fan is 8" OD and the driveshaft OD is 1.5"? What is the width of the mounting surface on the driveshaft?

Any chance you can post a pic of it :thanku:
I'd be in for a couple, depending on application and price. I need one for the 1886-01 and would like a spare for the 23.
My QT's and HT23 both have 6" plastic fans with 1.5" hubs. I'd love to replace a couple that are missing and have a spare or two on hand-- if they're not too pricey.

My fan is on tractor to get a picture would be hard, I will ask guy where I got them if he has a picture of a new one.
A 3D scanning/printing service could easily make replacements once provided with an original to scan in for the model.

My shaft is 2" OD on the end with room for 5/8" hub. I have a 1455 parts tractor but havnt looked at the shaft diameter on that - figured it would be the same.
And yes I'd be interested in a production run. I'd buy 2.
All FMC Bolens drive shafts one piece or two piece have a yoke dia. 1 1/2" on hydro end for a metal or plastic fan, the fans I use go on that size yoke, I bought one today and will take picture of it. I don't know if I can post here that is why I always give my email address I can send in e-mails, my two cents.
