I have a Tecumseh H60 engine that came off of an older Sears tractor. The tractor has a Delco Remy starter/generator but since the engine is off of the tractor I can't test the engine with the starter. Is there any way I can test the engine without the electric starter, like can I place a rope starter. Or will that not work?

Any help with this will be great!

Not sure, but all the bigger Tecumseh's 8HP and up had a notch in the starter pulley a rope can be wrapped around to manually start it...if yours has none, you could probably use a "rope cup" off another engine ,or maybe even be able to wrap a rope around the crank PTO pulley..if you have a 1/2" drill you might be able to put a bolt in its chuck and grind it square so a 1/2" drive socket fits the bolt head, and use that as an electric starter too..

You should be able to use the pulley where the belt gos. If you still have the starter-generator mounted, you could use jumper cables to power the starter. I have started older Briggs engines that way.
