I have a commercial 12 with a completely worn out engine. I also have a good engine off a 430 rider. Can I just swap them out?

The comm 12 is a K301, but the other one is missing the tag. It's a 3/4 in shaft, 3 inches long. It's a battery ignition and the gear looks the same, but I'll have to take the 301 back off to be sure. Weren't 430's all 12HP?

Yes. The Gravely designations at the time (424, 430, 432) were based on the cubic inches of the engines. The engines were rated at 10, 12, and 14HP respectively. There were Kohlers and Onans on those single-cylinder 400s, guessing they were similar in displacement.

All of these motors (riders and walk-behinds) of that era should have had a Gravely-specific stepped crank. And with that I'm about at the limit of my knowledge.
