'64 Ford 2000 4 cylinder gas engine starts easily and runs for about 10-20 seconds then stops. It will start right up again and run for about 10-20 seconds and stop again. It will do that over and over again. It also stalls easily when the throttle is increased. It sounds like a fuel supply problem, maybe the carb. Is there a procedure for cleaning or rebuilding the carb or do you think its something else?

Is the ignition a points & condensor syestem? I am sure it is if my memory serves me correct. You may have a bad condensor. They will run fine until they heat up some then quit, cool down then repeat the cycle. My dad had an old Massey with a Continental 4cyl we this scenario happen to. Installed a new condensor Presto she worked like a champ.

HOPE THIS HELPS

Could also be something in the fuel line. When the engine is running the fuel pressure forces the debris into a fuel passage. When the engine stalls pressure is relaxed and the debris settles down, allowing fuel to pass and the engine to start back up.

Try disconnecting the fuel line at the carb and let in run into a plastic jar. Watch the flow rate, it should be steady and strong. If you are getting a slow trickle, it would cause the symptom you have.

Take the tank off, put a few handfulls of small rocks (not dirt), nuts, bolts or whatever you ahve available, add about a quart of gas, and shake for a few minutes in each direction, or build a rig like this on much larger scale:

Thanks for all your suggestions. i finally got some time to dig into it. I disconnected the gasline at the carborator and there was barely a trickle of gas coming thru. As it turns out the line was clogged with particles of rust. After cleaning it it runs like a champ! Thanks again guys for all your help.
