just finished putting new head and valve gaskets on a 22hp briggs ELS656, i put new plugs in QC12YC and one keeps fouling out. problem # 2 when i engage the mower deck the engine starts to die (spits / sputters) any suggestions. not sure if they are related problems or seperate.

If it was an interlock problem, the engine would just die unceremoniously like my craftsman would. Sounds like you have a cyllinder not firing or firing weakly, quite possibly the one with the ever fouling plug.

Might want to have the coil pack tested by a shop, if the plug wires look good.

If the problem is a safety switch interlock problem that problem will exit the crime scene at the speed of light if you locate and disconnect the mag kill wire at the engine. That is, if the remainder of the wire from the connector to the mag isn't chafed causing an intermittent ground.
