It's a 6:1 gear reductoin box,factory Briggs equipment...the Kohler engine will work,but if the tractor was designed to be used with 6:1 reduction it'll go too fast with a engine without the reduction,you could use a small pulley on the engine and one 6 times bigger on a jackshaft to slow it down to the same RPM the Briggs used to turn at...why not just get the Briggs running,instead of making so much work for yourself,or get another gear reduction engine??..
