Ebay Towing Mirrors Pics and Review

I've been revamping this old rust bucket, and had to replace the broken mirrors. I opted for a set of towing mirrors from Ebay, they were around 110 dollars shipped. Fully manual, as the factory mirrors were.

The quality was good. They do shake some on rough roads, but so did the old ones. Installation was pretty easy (taking off the door panels makes it way easier), and an additional bracket was included to help hold the extra weight. I am pretty happy with them.

These are a huge improvement over the stock mirrors. Backing is walk in the park now.

They are identical to the factory mirrors that come on GMT800 and newer trucks.

Any suggestions on how to fix the rust stain on my front bumper? I'm not even sure how it got there...

It's an ex-diesel. First diesel lasted 220k then broke the crankshaft, second (questionable reman) lasted 40k and had a major bottom end failure. I then acquired the truck and converted it to a 350.

I really considered converting to a 6BT since I already have the NV4500, but the truck is too rusty and beat up. Can't really see it in the pics, but the bed is pretty rusty under the fender flares, and there's holes in the rockers and under the doors.

I just added 906 Vortec heads and a Summit stage one intake. 3" single exhaust with a Cherry Bomb Extreme muffler. It runs very well.

Something as simple as CLR or I think muratic acid should pretty much dissolve the rust on contact.
Tin foil and water. Allow room for elbow grease.
Tow mirrors are definitely a nice upgrade.
I will give these a try. Thanks for the suggestions.

I wouldn't put a 6bt in it with the factory NV. It's the lighter duty nv4500 not the heavy duty used in the dodges. It might hold up to a stock 6bt but what's fun about that?

Supposedly the 96+ NV4500 were the same, aside from the input shaft and bellhousing, and the early 4500 had different internals and a lower first gear. This is just what I've read on the net, I haven't dug into them first hand.

Regardless, I will drive this truck as is until the cab falls off from rust. At that point I will pull the mirrors and drivetrain, and junk the rest.
