She took the money and ran. Ebay was basically of no help on this. They actually said, 'Sorry but we can't MAKE someone sell you something... ' How nice, again. All they could do was shut down her account, like I'm sure she really cared. Lesson from this: USE PAYPAL.
Did they actually shut her down? My experience with eBay is that they will do nothing to sellers who rip off buyers who pay by check. The goal is to make you use Paypal, which is now owned by eBay, so eBay gets yet another cut on the deal. On the other hand, they will automatically side with the buyer in a dispute if Paypal is used.

Enough complaining about eBay and Paypal. eBAy is a good place to find stuff. Your best protection is the Seller's feedback. Check it out. If they have a lot of sales and a high feedback rating, you should be ok.

Hi Oldebonnie,

Yeah it appeared that they actually dud shut her down. As I recall, I was trying to by a Briggs motor from her for 200 bucks. But it's been so many years ago now, and I've since began using Paypal, so I chalk it up to lessons learned from the School of Hard Knocks. Karma will catch up to her eventually, if it hasn't done so already. As for me, I'm hoping that the next engine I buy will be a new one, preferably with a new tractor wrapped around it :trink39:.

I listed a component of the Norden bomb sight with the statement that I'd only ship it by Registered Mail, due to the scarcity and value. I got into an online argument with a cheap idiot who claimed I was trying to rip him off. Something bothered me, so I blocked him as a bidder BEFORE he placed a bid. Man was he honked, but what really honked him was when I told him I destroy it before I sold it to him. It went to a new home at a fair price. His loss.

Use Pay Pal! I bought a Kubota tractor on Ebay from a guy last week, based on the pictures and description I was lead to believe it was a super clean, low hour machine. I bid to win and paid him with cash at pick up. Looking back as soon as I laid eyes on the machine I should have walked away and dealt with what ever situation would have came up at the time from doing so rather than handing over, over $600 cash to the guy. The tractor was described as having great paint, great tires, smooth hydro and low hours. Once I got it home I found that the trans was weak and it wouldn’t pull a hill, the tires are totally dry rotted and have lost air in my garage, the deck bearings howl and the paint is far from perfect! Luckily I was able to get the trans issue figured out, it was a seized up tensioner arm and a bad belt. Anyway I filed a complaint with Ebay because the seller got nasty with me immediately, “I sent him an email within 2 hours of picking it up about the trans slipping”. He offered to take the tractor back for a $500 return fee, what type of a reputable seller does that??? Anyway after a few days of deliberating on Ebays side I got an email from a customer support manager, she told me that had I paid him with Pay Pal that she would have reversed my payment and HE would have been liable to come pick the tractor back up, not only because of its actual condition vs what it was described as but because of his very poor attitude and unwillingness to even work with me . Lesson learned, if you get a bad gut feeling as soon as you walk up to a situation, seller or first glimpse of something, WALK away and 2nd use PayPal for ALL transactions, I don’t care if they charge the seller a fee, I will NEVER go through this again!

I paid for that tractor within 24 hours of the auction closing and he got NASTY with me. After everything was said and done I even left the guy a good feedback point and sent him an email telling him that I was taking the high road on the situation since Ebay decided in his favor, he emails me back and says “ Are you serious, that isn’t going to happen” then proceeded to tell me that I was harassing him! Anyway, I thought I would share my last Ebay tractor buying story… Oh, don’t ever do any business with a guy out of Smithsburg MD that goes by Shotgunb because if there is any type of an issue he will turn NASTY once he has your money in his hands and wont be willing to work with you AT ALL….

Another Ebay lesson, don’t buy and pay for items that are way away! I drove to Decatur Illinois back in 2004 to pick up a Kawasaki ZRX1100 that was described as like new. We got there at night, in the rain and it did look new, started right up and sounded incredible. I rode it up onto my truck and left. 13 hours later I got home and took it out for a ride to find it had NO 2nd gear! The guy tells me that I should have test rode it, again I got screwed over bad!! The other time I drove far away was to Utica NY to pick up a 2003 Kawasaki KLR650, I paid for it in full with Pay Pal, drove all day to pick it up to find it was crashed the night before, the guy “took it out for one last ride” and rear ended a parked car! He didn’t call me because he was in the ER… That DID not go over well, I got my $$ back and he gave me $100 for gas but man, I drove ALL day for nothing in my old Toyota pickup. Anyway, watch yourselves on Ebay, some sellers, even with a lot of good feedback like Mr Shotgun B are only out for themselves and are quick to turn on you after the sale.

I couldn't agree more WNYTT it's the only recourse left if a deal goes south.

The one thing that bothers me about some sellers on E-bay is the one that dictate terms i.e. Give me a 100% rating or I won't give you one !, or the don't bid if you don't give me an excellent rating ! WTH ?

I always pay (paypal) within 2 hours of the closing so I should get a 100%, but the seller may drag their heels for 3 weeks and give tons of excuses or ignore your request for an update so why should they get the same rating ?

Another one is the no reserve listing that comes in way under what the seller was hoping to get then saying you have to pay his listing fees because he/she didn't price it accordingly.

In these examples I feel I shouldn't suffer the sellers stupidity yet that seems to be the way of world now on E-bay.

As Tinkerer said always use PayPal and let the Buyer Beware.

Yeah, I had no idea what I was getting myself into with this last seller and the Kubota... I’m happy that I was able to repair the transmission issue myself with some elbow grease on the idler shaft and a fresh belt but it was far from described, he argued that he tested it, had he tried to drive it up a hill it would have had to slip, I even offered to have the local Stihl dealer / small engine shop write up a quote to bring it to where it was supposed to be based on his ad that would have proved without a doubt that he lied and scammed me.. I wish I would have slammed him with a negative feedback too, not tried to take the high road and avoid getting one as a retaliation because Im 100% sure, he would have taken that route based on his demeanor though the whole ordeal. Ive got over 510+ on my account, not one negative, Im 100% willing to work with someone that buys something and has problems, I would have NEVER gotten nasty with someone, it just proves that he knew he sold me a misrepresented machine. I’m still kicking myself for not using paypal and paying with cash! Lesson learned though, NEVER again, I don’t care what the item is, I won’t go through this again!

I have been using ebay since the early days and have never had a problem
I’ve been a member for many, many years too, never had this type of issue before either! I ended up leaving him a . as a + feedback, even after all of the back and forth crap with hopes that even though he 100% misrepresented the tractor, even according to Ebay, that he would, at the bare minimum leave me good feedback considering I paid, cash, 1 day after the auction closed at pickup before I realized the machine was NOT as described.. Nope, instead he says “ Are you kidding me, its not going to happen”…. Buyers beware, drive the distance and look at what your buying, I took this losers word and feedback % at face value that it was good, turned out to be a complete pile or used up crap….

I just got took.
I bid on A hood for a 12hp Suburban tractor from mkstractorsandsupplies on E-bay
and 15 min. after I won the bid and paid with Paypal he sends me a note saying that he no longer had that one in stock. ??? How can you sell something you don't have?
He said he would send one off a different model. I said no way with out pictures first.
I got no reply and no hood. So I filed a dispute. Then I got a note from him saying he shipped it with UPS tracking. So I waited. When I got it it sure was not the one I bid on. It was rusty and had holes in it and parts was missing. So I continued my dispute. He said after I sent it back I could get my money back. I said no way that I should have to pay shipping back for something I did no bid on. So E-bay took control. They told me to return the item and I would get my money back.
So I still lost money sending the hood back and I still have not received anything.
I also bought a tank bracket for him and I have not received it.
Look at what I bid on and what I got.

That’s ridiculous, if he didn’t have the part you bid on and won he should have reversed your payment and explained the situation to at least avoid a bad feedback point! Last night I was looking on ebay at tractors again, I almost did a buy it now on a JD with a cab that is within driving distance, till I read the guys feedback, it’s the same guy that I bought the Kubota from! That would have been bad, I wouldn’t give that guy another cent and its probably misrepresented too. I decided to email him about it, just stating that I almost clicked BIN till I realized who he was, he responds back that he turned me into Ebay for harassment and if I ever contact him again about anything that he will turn me in to the "authorities"... I hope Ebay and PayPal straighten out your mess, have you spoke to anyone on the phone? The lady that I worked with on my claim was great, sadly since I paid with cash there was nothing they could do for me.
