Easy Seat Upgrade for GX, GT, LX, SST and 300/400 Series

Hi All,

When cruising JDPARTS, I noticed that the "M127976" seat base was used on a large number of models. Here's a partial list:

325, 335, 345, 355D, 415, 425, 445, 455
3032E, 3038E, 3203, 4105 Compact Utility Tractors
GT225, GT235, GT235E, GT245
GX255, GX325, GX335, GX345, GX355
LX255, LX266, LX277, LX279, LX280, LX288, LX289
SST16, SST18
X300, X300R, X304, X320, X324, X340, X360, X465, X475, X500, X520, X530, X534, X540, X700

In theory, that means that any of the seats should interchange with any of the others. (Seat safety switches, etc, however, may be different).

I purchased a newer style seat from an X540 for my GX345, and about 30 seconds later it was swapped into place.

The install took less than a minute:

remove the safety switch
pull the e-clip off the mounting rod
slide out the rod
swap the seat
replace the rod
replace the e-clip
replace the seat switch

I've very pleased with the results. If anyone knows of other seats that share this same mounting base, please jump in and let us all know!

It's still not likely as comfy as rrmccabe's seat upgrade, but you can't ask for a faster or easier swap.

Nice, how much you pay for the seat? if is not to much to ask.

I like that. Looks much more modern.

stladrill, JDs site shows the price at 179.85 US.

I am sure it could be bought less from one of those EBay dealers.

I would want to go the other way if I done it.I like the seat on my LX277 better then the new seat on my X320.

It looks nice. Makes the tractor look bigger. I saw it for $150 on ebay.

:thanku: I like the handle on it, when I climb abort would be practical, but a bit expansive just for the handle in my situation.

I don't see a reason why you couldn't swap the older style one on your X320. Ask around; you may be able to find someone to do a swap with!

The 2003 gx345 must have had a different seat than the 2004's. My seat looks like it has a higher back than yours and is really comfortable. I think the 345 had a seat like the one you had, but not sure. I would never want to change my seat to the new one, but thats just me as it looks lower than mine.

I think that's just the angle of the picture and it just looks lower.

It was my understanding that the seat changed to slightly higher around Serial Number 70,000. If thats true I think all GX series should have the same seat since they all have SNs above 70,000.

I dont know this for sure but I kept looking at the upgraded seats on Ebay thinking they were taller than mine too. Dunno !

Looks nice! Should provide more Lumbar support. I wish I jump to the SE seat
on my X720 that cheap, I believe it's over $500.

According to JDPARTS, the 345's from 70,000+up and all the GX345s shared the same seat -- AM131801. I have seen several 345's and GX345's with another 'high back' Deere seat as a replacement. That's just another version of the same type of swap. K.I.G. generally has them listed on eBay (like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370268516004)

Not much. Just some snowblower time which was good. The little woman got on it today to make sure she could reach the pedals and she was good to go.

I bought my first JD today. x500. Had planned on getting the x320 but the locking tranny was a must have for my yard. Works better than I thought possible. Amazing.
Anyways, I loved the seats on the x530 and x540. I went to the parts dept and their diagram showed the wrong picture. It showed the seat that came on my x500. I really want the taller seat with the drain hole. Does anyone know the part number?

The x700 seats were great too. But they told me I'd need to replace the bracket. The x530+ seats were just as comfortable and will fit. So that's the one I seek.
