DYS4500 transaxle

My Craftsman DYS4500,built by AYP, (now Husqvarna), has multiple problems. The replacement mower purchased a few days ago, is not satisfactory and I plan to repair and keep using the DYS4500. Have no money to waste but the cost will not break the bank-even if it matches the cost of a new mower. Mower has 570 hours.
Among the problems is that the thing would stop moving while climbing a hill, then would move again when I pushed in the clutch/brake pedal and released it. I assumed that it is the belt or the transaxle. Wiil determine whchi it is when the other problems are sorted out
Sears shows the transaxle is no longer available. I know that it is Tuff-Torque.
I am physically unable at this time to personally remove/ replace the unit. If it is determined by others that a new transaxle is needed, what is a bolt-in replacement? A more durable unit will be OK. I have someone who can do the swap.
Suggestions?

Sorry to hear it. You’re between a rock and a hard place.

There should be a tag on the transaxle with the exact model. There are many variations so you need the exact model number with suffix.

A new replacement T40 or K46 transaxle will be in the $750-800 range, which is probably the worth of the tractor when functioning as it should. And buying a used transaxle would be an extremely risky proposition at any cost, as you have no idea of it’s hours or how it was treated. Hills wear out these transaxle in a hurry.

Good luck with your decision.
If it equals the cost of a new machine, then so be it. It is preferable to the new one I just purchased. Some places have suggested that better transaxles will direct fit. Hoping to find more specifics on that.
Yeah you are looking at $750-ish. You will need to pull numbers and verify it is a K46, I got that from another thread about the same machine.

Here's one new off eBay, it's your best bet. Also, can I get the model number so we can see what model and part number the transaxle is? I think it's a K46BA, but it's good to be safe first before you buy the wrong one. I'm not sure what the difference in the variations is, but I would put the same model transaxle back in it.

By the way, if you see a transaxle that says it's for Husqvarna, note that sometimes they do not include Craftsman tractors, although they should because Husqvarna is the same people who built it and Craftsman's have shared the same frame with their units for decades.
Here is a K46BA unit by the way.

Depends if it's superceded or if it is a mount point variation. If M and D has the number they will tell you what matches.

Helpful crew as well, always answered my questions.
