No, not which way goes toward the grass. I already know that. My question is should the blades be parallel or perpendicular? Does it matter?
this is on a two-blade 38" deck.

I don't think it really matters. They will move anyway since the belt has some slip to it.

Might be a dumb question on my part here, but how does a twin blade deck cut without missing a tiny strip if the blades are not overlapping.

Do they overlap and time them or stagger front to back and overlap on straight runs ?

They are overlapped, the offset of the spindles across the deck allows for the overlap. It does not matter how you align them on the spindle since as one other posted stated the belts will slip some anyways and change their orientation.

stagger front to back, like PA318 described... no timing, not with a V-belt driving them...

I didn't think it mattered but I wanted to be sure before I put them back on.
