Just put a little over an hour on my little 1401D pulling an over sized 5ft bush hog at a co workers house. Other than not being able to lift the impliment off the ground due to it weighing as much as the little Yanny it performed flawlessly until the last pass, it was boggin teribly but I decided to finish the pass. I also started smelling some thing I have never smelled before (turned out to be burning cudzu and fescue mix).

The stuff I was cutting was as high as the hood on the Yanny and it started wrapping around the front drive shaft and continued utill it was wound so tight against the oil pan that it couldn't spin anymore. The drive shaft spinning inside this mess actually started a small fire inside the bundle, good thing the grass was wet and compacted.

Moral of the story, stay outa the deep stuff if your missing the drive shaft gaurd.

btw if anyone knows where I can find one of those I'd love to know.

yeah there is just an exposed shaft like on a truck.

I was thinking maybe a pto shaft guard could be made to work. Any thoughts on that?
