Just ordered a 54 quick hitch blade from my dealer and it does not inc. the lockout valve. Dealer wants a extra 80.00 for it and say's he never sell's it with the plows and I don't need it.

I thought you had to have it??? He gave me a great price on the plow so I don't care about the 80.00 bucks but he was so adamant that I don't need it and it's waste of money that I'm confused. :thanku: for the help.

you dont have to have it, but the angle cylinder for the plow is on the same circuit as the deck cylinder. when you angle the plow, you have to wait for the deck cylinder to move full stroke before the blade moves, you do not need it, but it is nice, it takes forever to angle the blade without it, other members here no where to buy rated valves cheaper. good luck!

I don't have one with my 318. True, it take a little bit of waiting for the blade to angle, but I am usually angling the blade as I am backing up so that I don't have to wait for it. Depending on the snow, I can see the blade moving towards center a little bit rather than at a full angle, but I have got along fine without the lockout valve.

I don't know about the newer blades and tractors but I have had 3 different older 300 series tractors with the 54 hyd front blade and never did put the hyd. lock out valve on any of them The blade worked just fine without them in my opinion.

It's nice to have but not required.
I got my front quick hitch and snow blade used from the dealer so I went and later bought a used lockout I found online so I could not say anything to my dealer... FYI but in my John Deere Attachment and Accessories booklet it says under the lockout valve description that it comes standard with the front quick hitch .. for the price they want for the quick hitch it should.

mine on my 317 moved slow, i then installed the valve, what a world of difference, imho, its not just moving the blade fully back and forth, its when you want to make it move just a tad bit, when doing dirt and gravel and snow, its nice to tap the lever and it be responsive.

I used my 425 without the valve and whenever I would angle the blade and push some material, the blade would not hold its angled position, it would return to center. With the valve installed, the blade will hold position it is set to.

Probably if you used it without one, then used it with one, you would be buying one. I ran a snowblower on a 425 without. It was ok. Then next year father-inlaw got the valve and what a world of difference. Several on ebay.

I think I got the shaft also. I bought a 45 loader used so I didn't get the valve with it, I bought it separate. I didn't get one with the quick hitch (bought new) either. I'm sure o didn't get a discount on the hitch for not including the valve. :banghead3
I can't speak for the plow angle but the snow blower chute is really REALLY slow without closing the valve.

Hello 8086 Bruce, When putting the valve on my 720 I found out that I had to remove the
the knurled knob for clearance while threading it into the control
valve, then replaced the knob, just a small allen screw.
Pick at least 1 qt. hyd oil, you won't lose much putting the valve in,
but when you purge the lift and angle cyls. it will take most of a qt.
if not slightly more.
Hope this is of some help.

Just wanted to Put this Out there I would copy this Picture and Print it Out and show Your dealer That the shut off valve is Part of the Quick Hitch

Why don't you call around to several other JD dealers and get quotes and see if they included the valve. If so, go back and demand that they give you one.

Thanks for the Reply's guy's this helps me alot. I'm sure this will save me 80 bucks. I'm going to call the dealer and give him another chance because he did say something that was odd when I first asked him. He said I only need it for a loader. So I wounder if he thought I was asking about the hydro relief valve or what ever it's called.
