I have a 917.272281 dlt 2000 hydro foot pedal tractor with a briggs ElS 22 OHV 446777. Both starter gears are stripped, the gear n the starter and the plastic gear on the fly wheel are destroyed. Has anyone ever had this problem before? can I get replacement parts? I assume the starter gear would be easy to find but can i replace the plastic gear on the flywheel, or do I have to buy a new flywheel?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

PS where can I get cheap parts?

You can change the plastic to metal on the flywheel. The starter gear remains plastic. Its not hard to do.

Sears parts or your local small engine repair shop should be able to get your parts with the info that you have.

That's a question I do not know the answer to.

I called around couldn't find a metal replacement ring gear for my model so I just ordered the origionals.
Tulsa engine warehouse is the winner. $46.69 for the ring gear, starter drive assembly and a new flywheel key. Jacks small engine parts was close $55 and sears is on drugs asking almost $90. Hopefully I will have the parts on Thursday and start on the leave cleanup.

thanks for your replies
