Deestone D837 vs Vredestein V61 - front rib tire

I've found plenty of positive reviews for the Vredestein V61 rib tires, however I recently came across the Deestone D837 rib tire, which has very similar printed specifications and is substantially cheaper. They are both tubeless 18x8.50-8 tires with a 4 ply rating. I got a pair of each quoted, with shipping; $137.15 for the V61 and $74 for the Deestone. Any reason why I wouldn't give the Deestone a shot?

The ribs on the Deestone are more like a wheelbarrow tire. Take a look at both mounted, and there is no comparison - The V-61s are worth the money.
I finally found somebody who bought and mounted the Deestones. I think they look pretty good ... really not much different then the v61's. I may give them a shot since the few people I've found who bought them all recommend them.

I have the Deestones up front:
It's all in what you want, they are much less aggressive than the Vredesteins. I do like the looks of the V61s, but I doubt they really make any actual difference. Front-mounted weights is the key for more steering traction.

i think the reason why V61's are so popular are because of the size and depth of the ribs. you will notice that they are deep, wide, ribs. the deestones look like they have a shallower, narrower rib

Thanks Bob for your comments and pictures. Your point above is exactly what I am debating. I agree the V61's look better, but is their actually any performance difference for double the cost. To steal an image from Glockem's thread, here is a pic of the V61's installed;



The ribs are certainly wider, as their are fewer of them, but I don't really think they are substantially deeper.

they dont get clogged up with snow, dirt, mud, etc which is why they are supposedly a better tire

I would think in the winter the deeper treat would give you better steering.
Does anybody know what the measure depth of the V61's is?

The deestones are advertised at "7/32nds (COMPARE, deeper than most for the money)"
I have the V61's and love 'em. But they DO fill with stuf and it normally comes out as they are rolling but with some mud / manure / soft soil and some times snow they do fill and when I roll back out of the shop they do leave a mess. The thing I do like about them is with the weight of my 420 that if the ground is soft they do not leave deep or large marks and within a day or 2 the marks are usually gone. In past I have found that there is usually a difference in price for a reason and will only show up once you have used them. The Deestones look to me to be a good fit between a 3 rib and the Vred's. All season radials behave OK untill the colder temps and then do not work as well as snow tires and in higher temps do not work as well as summer tires - a trade off in $. Not saying this is this is the reason but there must be something. Either one will give much better steering than turfs. I just installed a set of Michelin's on my truck and yes they are more $ even tho' the Goodyears gave me good service there is no comparison.

Deestone's are a good tire, but the the 2 tires your talking about are day and night. One has a wide deep tread, the other is shallow multi rib tire. It's like summer car tires compared to winter car tires.

You should be comparing the deestones to the "multi rib" carlisle sells. Multi ribs are fine but they are made for "easy flowing" traction and rolling. (mowing grass)

The V61's are more like a tri rib that bigger tractors have that work in the dirt/snow and need "real traction" to steer.

I have those deestones and they are nice tires. But not made to do the same job as the v61's.

I tried the Deestones last winter with my snowblower and I was amazed at how well they worked. They do not plug up with snow and I believe it give's me more rubber on the ground.
I find it hard to believe that the V61's have gone up that much in price...I bought 4 from Tire unlimited for $96 dollars shiped to my door. They were $24 dollars apiece. Since I bought 4 there was no shipping. The Deestone are basically the same tread pattern as the original cub front tires. But it all depends on what you want........7/32 isn't even a 1/4 inch deep. Very shallow. Therefore I can understand why they wouldn't clog up. They aren't deep enough to clog up...I can measure my V's but right off hand they half to be about a 1/2 inch deep.

:ditto:There really is no comparison. Two totally different tires.
Someone asked the V61 tread depth.It's roughly 3/8".
