Hi all - recently purchased a completely rebuilt 54" blade to push snow with, and separately purchased a 314 to mount it on. I have a couple questions about the 314:

If you put too much pressure on the hydraulic lever on the left side of the tractor, it goes too far, like it is going over a lobe on a cam, and you have to force it back to zero position. Is there something missing that is allowing it to do this ? Something adjustable ?

Secondly, it did not come with front hydraulic outlets. The lines and couplers that run to the front are fairly easy to find, but I don't see where they would attach o the unit underneath the tractor. Is there a different unit required, or are they just T'd from the factory ? Do I just need to T or split each line ?

Lastly, the tractor seems to vibrate excessively at high RPM. The steering wheel just buzzes your hands. Bad motor mount / mounts ? Or something else. I've had other single cylinder Kohlers and don't remember this being a problem.

Thanks in advance for your input.

screamin,

Your hydraulic lever has a "float" position on it, which is what you'll use most for blading unless you want to dig with it. When you push it all the way forward and release it will be in the float position. Just pushing it slightly forward allows for "down" pressure and should allow you to raise your front wheels off the ground.

The vibration sounds like a bad PTO shaft. I recommend you check that out very quickly as it can damage the input shaft to the hydro pump!

Looks like the front hydraulic couplers were a kit on the 314 Here is a pic:

Thanks for the reply PA318. I understand the float position and down pressure, I had a 312 previously. But I don't recall the hydraulic lever every going down or up past a couple of inches like this one does if you put too much pressure on it - like there should be a stop of some sort to keep it from traveling so far. Am I explaining this correctly ? It is able to travel too far with a little extra pressure.

I'll look at the PTO shaft tomorrow, that sounds logical.

Thanks for the diagram, explains what I need to know. I'll either put T's on it or just remove the lines for the deck lift cylinder as I have no deck and have no intention of ever using it for mowing, have two others.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

There's no deck on the tractor, but the cylinder engages and works properly when the lever is pushed forward or back. The lever just travels too far when you push a little harder. I wonder if something is just loose, I'll keep digging.

No key in the lever shaft?

Thats my guess.

The 314 does not have float . Its an H-1. The single lever runs the HYD cylinder for the rock shaft and one set of front remotes. Only the H-2 and H-3's have float.

I just did an H-2 conversion on my 314 .I have both lines ,couplers and the valve from the H-1 left over. You are welcome to the parts for free.

Screamin" seems I lost sts25straight somewhere in my explanation and so to clarify here we go:

1. Yes I meant the drive shaft
2. 318 and 314 driveshafts are extremely different, I put the diagram of yours up so that you could determine where possibly to check it. The 318 driveshaft has 2 sets of universals (that can wear out) that can cause it to get loose and vibrate while spinning which results in a similar condition as you expressed. My driveshaft was not on the hydro pump shaft completely and also resulted in increased vibration. I recently remedied this issue.
3. sts25straight may be able to answer more questions on a 314 as he apparently is more familiar with them.

Thanks for the tips, I've been working on my trailer today and haven't had time to look at the driveshaft - but someone has been under there working on it recently as the brake pedal shaft has been replace with a new one. I'm hoping for just what you said - not reinstalled completely. I'll let you know if you got it. Thanks
