I figured I would share the info in case anyone was interested because of their own project ideas, thinking of upgrading, but not knowing where to start, or just wanting to validate an implement manufacturers claims yourself, like the kind you see to lift mower decks or work a Johnny Bucket JR. There are many uses for them, some are very durable, some are not.

The below comes out of this PDF of Warner’s Products that give the types of actuators, dimensions, performance, uses, and most interesting to me at the time was how to decode the numbers on the actuator itself. I was trying to decode the actuators on my JBJR and that’s how I ended up with this.

This is the decode for the “B-Track” that I have on my JBJR, and for the rest, enjoy the PDF.


K2=model
G20=gear ratio (20:1)

12V=12VDC (they go to 90VDC I think)

There is no "M" so this field is blank meaning it has a standar motor.

DN=Delrin nut

04=stroke in inches (can go to 24")
R90= the base install orientation is 90 degrees.

the next up to 4 digits is used as a modifier, in this case it's

JP2=Johnny Products designation.

An example,

K2G20-12V-DN-04R90-JP2

"Thomson Linear Actuator
4 in stroke 1200lb force.
Johnny Bucket Jr lift replacement, all models all years. 100% replacement for older Bear and Warner models.
12v 1/2" pin holes. The pin center to pin center retracted measurement is 10-3/8". Used on JBJr lift"

These are very durable, I have over 100hrs, so far.

Thanks for the info and the effort to get it. I have one of JB rear sleeve hitch with an actuator. Possibly one one these so I'll file this away with the other paperwork should it occur that I see a problem.

How long have you had that JB sleeve?

How do you like it? What do you use it for?

I ordered mine approx 3 weeks ago and am getting a little anxious, admittedly. I've had half of the set up since 2017 but finally made the decision to get the rest (actuator).

They are all still original and work well.

Just...

I've been using this JBJR so much that numbers were getting hard to read, so I thought while I still could see them, I would take pictures for future reference.

As thing go, I thought, Are there any up grades in power I could make?

Then I figured to answer that question I would need to know how to decode these things....one thing led to another and I figured I'd share. I can't be the only one thinking of squeezing out more power or how to find new ways to use mechanical muscle.

By the way, these things have some customizing that can be done and they can be maintained and repaired. I think a good measure for quality is the ability to maintain the equipment.

I asked because I'm having a problem with mine, sometimes they just click instead of move. I've also burned through a few toggle switches. I've replaced the battery and upsized the fuses, no improvement.

I don't think it's the actuator, because I've had the problem with both actuators, and have disconnected and crossed the wiring (to try running each actuator from the other switch). I haven't done any real tracking of whether it's one circuit vs the other causing the clicking, because it clicked on the circuit that still worked after I friend the other switch.

I bought this used and already installed on the tractor. The wiring is really a hack job (on the whole tractor). I plan to rewire the whole thing with better wiring, switches (or a joystick) and relays.

The thing that makes me crazy is that so many people here have run theirs for years with the stock wiring (no relays, basic wiring and switches from Johnny Products) without problems.

Wow, First, congratulations, they are great.

I have found that two things should be check quickly when clicking and nothing moving.

The connection pin at the bucket, check that the plastic spacers are not worn and that proper alignment of the actuator is still achieved. (not off, it won't take much)

check your quick connect at the support bracket. I've had the little pull pins come out during use and the bucket wanting to not be aligned. (starting to pull out, just put the pins back in)

I find that this is due to alignment usually.

Then the other.

I have a write up on an install that might help. They are electric and if improper power is applied they won't work well or at all. The battery becomes important here too. The actuators need a max ability of 25 amp draw. If your motor charge output is the common 15 amp when new and not hot then a battery of a rating 25 Ah or better is important. On mine I use the Harbor Freight AGM with 35 Ah rating and approx 500 CC amps. It works well. I can use the bucket with the tractor turned off, no power issues.

The toggles can get stuck. It won't mean they are broke, necessarily.

Not sure if it's actually the wiring or the computer. I get a dim CEL whenever the engine is running. I have a thread running for that.
