So, is it a bad idea to drill a 5/8" hole on both sides of the deck of my 22/44 Regent in order to install a generic deck wash kit?

I like to keep the deck as clean as possible because I mulch every time I cut the lawn, about every 3 days for most of the year between April and September. I would really love it if the deck came with something that I could just hook a hose up to, turn on the water, and let the water clean the deck for me.

A quick google turned up this thread - http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=57516

I'm sure there's many more, seems a popular topic.

General consensus seems to be that they're a waste of time and effort
Some who used it every time they mow said it worked great.
Others said it leads to faster rusting and water in the spindles.

Some decks come with a deck pan that seals it up and lets the water slosh around like a washing machine. Reports on those are pretty good. No clue if Simplicity sells such a thing

The Simplicity decks come off and go back on easily enough it might be better to remove it every two or three weeks and wipe it down, depends on how dirty it gets.

From what I have heard, and I work in the OPE industry, they are a waste of time and lead to premature bearing failure. Its better to just scrape the excess grass and leave the deck dry, just wash it a couple times a year if needed and try not to get water in the spindles.
