Ok , I know nothing about JDs . but , have a chance to buy a JD 140 for $200 . All I know about it is that it runs good ( sat and started it myself) . It has 2 sets of hydraulic hookups in the front . Kohler engine . and it has 3 levers on the left side of the dash .

Like I said , I now nothing about these ( I'm a Simplicity guy) but thought it would make a good tractor for the house as a backup . Thinking $200 is a pretty good deal for it .

So , is it ? And how good are these ? And what can they handle for implements (snowblower, plow,FEL, etc) ?

The 140's were one of the best made by JD IMO and $200 is a steal. Enjoy it. slkpk

You should already have it in your possession by now at that price! :duh:

Seriously, 140's are fine little tractors, my 140 H1 (that one would be an H3, 3-hyd. outlets) is dedicated to my Johnson model 12 loader.

First ones were 12 HP, that one is probably 14HP (Kohler). I have a 3-pt on mine, some have a sleeve hitch for rear attachments.

If it is in decent shape and runs, I would buy it in a flash! ~~ grnspot110

I am not a big Deere fan, but I know this is a good machine. I see them on epay/CL for triple that easy with no attachments and beat barely running if at all. If I ever get a JD, it will be a 112 roundy or the 140. Grab it. :wwp:

That is a wonderful price for that tractor. I have never seen one that low. Steal it while you can.

Simplicity fanatic here too but that's one you better grab quick! Only other JD I'd like better is the early round fender 110.

You have it now right??? It's in your garage right now and you are currently polishing the hood while the oil is draining out for fresh oil right? For $200?????? I'd be ALL OVER THAT WITH BOTH HANDS AND A FOOT!!!!! I have never seen a running 140H3 sell for that anywhere in the last 10 years, that guy doesn't know what he has.

Ok , here's the poop . Went back to check the tractor out a little more and decided to throw caution to the wind . Will be picking up Thursday and bringing her home . The only way the wife would allow me to get it is if I'm buying it to sell and make a profit . I'm guessing that I'm goint to "attempt" to sell it for awhile :hide:

Here's a few pics . Also found the tag and the model is T0583 if anyone can give me some info on it . Also K231 I believe.

She's a little rough , but not to bad . Someone decided to spray bomb it . Figure it will be easy enough to properly paint it . Or maybe just leave it as is .

I think you can make a nice little profit with little work here on the forum.

Congarts, welcome to the Long Green Line! :fing32: :fing32: :fing32:

Looks a lot better than mine did when I got it! I gave $350 for it several years ago. Although it did have a 3-pt & one pair of JD weights;

Does that loader run off of the tractors hydraulics? It's one of the reasons I want it , to put a loader on it .

No, the model #12 Johnson loader I have (JD dealers sold them at that time) has it's own pump below the front of the tractor, runs off the PTO. Oil reservoir is in the LH loader frame upright, controls on top of the oil tank.
