I didn't know where else to post this. A couple years ago I was desperate for a mower and bought a pieced together one. Its the aformentioned Poulan pro, originally front wheel drive, but had that and the original engine removed etc. and just a 5.5 briggs installed. Has never cut very well, so I realized the blade is about 1 1/2" - 2" from the bottom of the deck. Can I buy a different blade adapter to get it down some or should I look for a scrap push mower deck. Thanks.

Well, I moved this engine to one of those Murray select, 21 inch push decks that originally came with one of those briggs ohv engines. Blade was still too high in deck so I ordered the longer style mtd adapter. Along with a universal gator 21 inch blade its done.

This is now my favorite mower. It doesn't make sense, but even mulching, it leaves among the nicest cut, and is very light to maneuver around.

With the choke equipped carb and airbox from a pressure washer quantum, its a one pull start mower.

Found one of those cheap, 3 in 1 Weed Eater brand, 21" mowers with a Briggs 550 something or another, same old 3.5 Briggs as far as I can tell, with the plastic diaphragm carb with primer on tank. Got it running decent, although it kinda hunts a little, next year will buy one of those Amazon tank & carb assemblies for it. Still need to wire up a toggle as a kill switch as the bail cable promptly broke right after getting it nice and freed up.

Today, I notice the deck is cracked, and welded, and again cracked on both sides of the front where the wheel height adjusters bolt on.

So this brings me to the red Murray. I figure the poor Quantum deserves retirement, and shelf back-up duty as it has to be reasonably high hour, having been on at least 3 different decks that I am aware of. So off comes the Quantum, and on goes the 3.5 Briggs.

Fits the deck better anyway, and I may be crazy, but I've always thought the 3.5 style Briggs had more power anyway.
