CV23s Heat shield

Hi guys, I just reseated the valves seats on my Kohler CV23s engine and everything works great, except one thing. For the life of me, I can't figure out where the heat shield ( part number GX21300ble ) goes. I Know it goes on the left hand side of the engine, but that's it. I spent two weekends trying to figure this out. any help would be much appreciated.
