Folks,

I have a Cub Cadet 2554 that I purchased about 4 years ago. I have always had some trouble with the lift but now it does not raise the deck at all. The lift lever works and I can see the spring on the left side move but the right side does not move at all. When I remove the deck pulling the right hand mower support pin the right hand lift link (arm) snaps, and I mean snaps, to the top. Moving the lift handle if very difficult when the deck is not installed. When I do manage to move the lift handle to the lowest possition the right hand lift arm does not move and I cannot pull it down. As you can imagine this really makes it really hard to put the deck back on.
I have not been able to find a maintenance manual for this series (2500) mower and do not know if there is any adjustment that can be made here.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Good morning, the lift lever with no deck is difficult with the 2550 is a 2 hand and arm operation also. 1st time I had the deck off I had difficulty lowering the lever to hook up also...got it eventually. Now I'm careful when removing the deck to carefully guide it to #5 to prevent the linkage from binding up.

If your linkage is bound up you may have to safely elevate the front end of the tractor. With the aid of a cable pulley linked to the 2 ears put a little pressure on the linkage.

But make sure the release button is engaged or you will bend the ears.

Once you're in #5 you're OK. Also when removing the deck if you can safely control the lever so it doesn't slam into #6 it probably wouldn't bind...but there a lot of torque there. Good luck and lets us know what solution you came up with.

I'm including a pic of a simple float device I cobbled up for mowing. This will keep the lever unlocked while you free the linkage up.
