I have a cub cadet 1720 which I purchased 3 years ago in good shape. Paid 400 bucks for it. I recently went to cut grass with it and it would start but wouldn't move. Checked the tranny fluid and belt they were fine. Any ideas? Worth fixing? Part out? Got my eye on a snapper 33 inch hi vac

Try this first--will give you an idea or two...
If you have a floor jack and a level area/floor--jack the two rear wheels off the ground. (Better here--if you have a helper) Start engine--let it run in gear--see if the wheels turn--raise the engine RPM's......that will tell you something right there...
let us know--

on the 1720, would chk to see that the disc brake calipers are not frozen up and/or that the tranny disconnect is really in the engaged position.

As discussed many times on here before the trans on that series was very light duty.Worth a look at the belt and fluid level but they tend to strip the internal gears.I have replaced gears in a few,parts are cheap even at the dealer if your up to pull it out.

Good Luck, Bob

Will know something here in a few days. Taking it Friday to a good friend of mine who knows a lot about cubs. Really want to put money into my deceased grandfathers 1650. I think it's worth it.

No doubt (in my mind) the 1650 is the tractor to put your time and money in:thThumbsU.They have their own weak spots but overall much better machine.The 1650 is a true garden tractor where the 1720 is a lawn tractor.
