Hi guys. I'm back on my feet after open heart surgery. Doing well. My cub isn't doing so well though. I have a 1969 12 horse 124 and all of a sudden it won't start. I tried a little quick start in a can and it would run about 3 seconds and smoke like ****. I have checked the valves and set them, cleaned the carb, and adjusted it, cleaned the gas tank, checked the spark, put in a new plug, cleaned the lines and installed a new filter, checked the points, a new condenser, and done everything I know how to do, and it still won't run on gas. It always started immediately with a choke and without when it was hot. It has a great hot spark. I always thought that an engine with a good spark and gas would run, maybe not perfectly but run but it won't hit a lick. I'm stumped....
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks for your input...... Catch:crybaby:

Congrats on having the surgery go well, that's no joke of a knife to be under!

Have you verified that you're not getting fuel to the plug when you attempt to start it without starting fluid?

I got it running this afternoon. Thats the good news. The bad news is I don't know how I fixed it. I have no idea. I just kept doing things until it ran............
Before today the plug was wet with gas and it still would not run. I always thought that if one had gas and spark it would pop, fire, or run badly at the least. No so, apparently. Anyway its doing fine now and I have overcome my pride, what little I have left and admit I had no idea what fixed it. Thanks for your interest and your help. :thanku: Catch

At least you're man enough to admit that you didn't know! Congrats and getting her running again. I wonder if you have an electrical issue going on with it....
