Hi all,
I'm in the process of replacing all the gaskets and seals on my Onan 218G.
I was reading in the Onan manual of using a crankshaft seal installer on the seal for the rear main bearing plate. Is this absolutely necessary, and has anyone done this without using this tool?
If I do need to use this thing, does anyone know where I could get one?

Thanks
Greg

Its best to use the proper seal installer tool, but many people have done fine with a wood block or something carefully sized that lets you press it in evenly.
I'm about to reassemble one of my P218's, but the machine shop has the proper tool for my use.

I guess you could use the old seal on top of the new one to protect the seal while pressing it in.

we just did one, we had the bearing plate off and used a big socket and taped in lightly,we had no leaks when finished
