I hate to say this because its my only tractor I have for grass duty.
I'm starting to hear that clicking sound which I believe means the lifters aren't pumping up.
I changed oil about a month ago because I was hearing that sound. It stopped. Oil I use is penzoil 10 w 30.

This problem had been on and off. Vary the rpms and most of the time they pump up.
Hours are in the 2000 to 2500 range.
What should I check first.
Engine runs perfectly smooth no smoke, but it seems a little harder starting.

Edit
Tractor is a early 98 green square body lt. I think it's a LT 4000.
Engine is a CV 18s.

I feel stupid. I started it up today and it was a little louder, so I shut it off and checked the oil.
It was down 1/2 way. Put oil in it and mowed the grass and they pumped back up.
I will keep a close eye on the oil level and check for leaks.
