hey guys this site has been real helpful with me as when I was changing my gear ratio. Now I have a new question well my transmission is a 6 spd and and my problem is when I am in 6th gear at full throttle my tractor down shifts into 5th and it will go into 6th but I have to push it there and hold it. I tried tightening the shifter but it still would drop into 5th I moved the belt keeper back but that did not help so I'am thinking I should get a new transmission I want to get a peerless 400 trans but I dont know where I could get one and if it would work with my tractor or just completely not fit and cause me lots of grief.

Anyways tell me what ya think.

Sounds like either the shift keys are worn, or the internal notches in the gears are worn - assuming that your linkage is okay.
At a standstill, engine off, does it feel like it's going all the way into 6th? Maybe the linkage needs to be adjusted, or the sheet metal is blocking its full travel.

yea it does feel like it goes all the way to 6th i think you may be right about the worn gears.
yea its defiantly had enough room for 6th I cut into the shifter slot to give it more room and it defiantly in 6th
There are a couple of threads around here about changing the shift keys, and some great pics that will show you how the tranny works. The shifts keys aren't expensive, but the gears are a bit pricey. Do you have any problems pulling a load in any other gear? My shift keys would skip when going uphill, but were okay on the level.
My symptoms were different from yours, since my tranny would "skip" in any gear when under a good load.

Well I think Iam just gunna go ahead and put a new tranny in that was my original plan. I know it could be fixed but I dont want to keep fixing it.

would you know if a pearless 400 would fit in?

Sorry, I haven't a clue about that.

darn do you know any members that might?
I dont think they make a 400series. its probably a 600 or 800 series transaxle, http://www.cpdonline.com/691218.pdf the 800 is industructable. you might want to put it in 6th with the clutch up and see if the belt is hitting the shifter.

I dont think the belt is the problem but where could I order an 800 series one?
Iam going to be purchasing a Race prepped 700 Peerless Transmission with a Centrifugal clutch and also a Vertical 16 hp Briggs V-twin.

I am also going to be entering the modified class next season.
Man, your not playing around anymore
no doubt lmao
Good luck mounting the tranny and axle, let us know how it goes, with pics!
