Correct paint color for Craftsman Model 917.275021

Hi,
Anyone know the correct paint color and correct type of paint to use on Craftsman Garden tractor model # 917.275021 year 2000/2001
It is a dark green, seems like an enamel paint but not sure.
The tractor is old now and needs some paint repairs.
Thanks.:tango_face_smile:

In case anyone else is interested:

So I went to Sears Parts Direct and eventually ended up with this paint color - Husqvarna 582974901 Spray Paint Po Grn 558
which is Sears Parts Direct alternative to the original OEM paint color.

Which I then found (so far) on this site for $31.35 but does not specify size of paint can, type, spray or brush on , or kind of paint. -

Will keep researching.:tango_face_glasses:

Well if that's your basic rattle can of paint, it does seem to be a bit pricey. Must be the crushed up emeralds to make it glow. If I were doing touch up I'd just get something from Rustoleum Hunter Green. If it's a worker, then so it doesn't quite match. If it's a trailer queen, well... Main thing in my mind would be to just keep rust at bay. Paint store near me (decorating and auto paint supply) use to make up custom spray bombs for customers. Don't know if that's still a thing anymore. Probably not.

Hi Newsman,
Thanks for your reply.
I looked up Rustoleum Hunter Green online. The Dark Hunter Green looks to be a good match.
I intend paint the entire hood and as much else as I can. Such being the case, all the old paint will be pretty much covered over.
There isn't that much rust but the paint has dulled quite a bit.

I was concerned about the new paint causing the old paint to crinkle underneath it.
I will test a small spot to be sure it doesn't have a bad reaction to the new paint as it being applied.

And yes I have not retired my Craftsman GT yet. So it is still a hard worker.

on the flat black areas....aka deck and dashboard.......try rustoleum rust converter...comes out like new color and blends in perfectly

Not sure about the Rustoleum converter, but most of the ones I've used have to be painted over to have any longevity. (at least to directions on the various containers) That would be handy if you don't have to do that.

I would get couple Scotch Brite pads, start w/ maroon and follow up with gray to scuff paint surface. Several light coats and if more protection and gloss is desired, couple rounds of their clear coat spray. It'll look great. (like new from 20 yards away):tango_face_grin:

Thanks for the tips Newsman. :thanku:
I just bought some of those pads to use with my new Makita Hammer/ Driver / Drill.

I used the brushes that came with the kit on my new Makita (yes, I am very proud of it :tango_face_smile:) to clean the underside of the mower deck.
Washed all the dirt off. Let dry. Then used a metal wire brush to clean of all the rust.
After that I painted on two coats of Wilmar Graphite. Let dry for 2 days. Buffed with a car polishing pad. Slick!
If I rinse the underside right after mowing all the clippings and dirt come right off.
I bet when I am all done mine will look like new to me if I just take my glasses off.:tango_face_glasses:

I'll bet that it turns out looking very nice based on the care, and time you're taking with everything. Looking forward to seeing pics when it's finished!
Hi tracktortag, :howdy:
Thanks! I hope so.
Yes, I will post photos but won't be for awhile.
I have lots of other chores need doing before cold weather arrives here.:tango_face_sad:
This is a spare time (whenever I can get to it) kind of project.:tango_face_smile:
