Hi all. I found a 314 for sale here in town but really don't know much about them at all. Seller claims it runs and mow fine, it has slow leak in both front tires and needs a new battery but is supposed to be fine. Cosmetically it looks fair and its a TX tractor so there's really no rust on there. Thoughts?

Hello Hawkeye0282

I had a Nice 314 for about Six years. It came to me with a new Kohler short block engine and a 47 Mowing deck under it. It ran good and cut good. The Only draw back I noticed with it was that is turned kind of wide and they do not have Power steering like it's big brother the 318. The Kohler engine is very Powerful but shakes a bit due to it's single cylinder. Most 314's were single hydraulic lever machines being called an H-1. This Limit's their ability to place & use some Hydraulic attachment's on them as they will only have one set of quick attach hydraulic port's on the front of the machine to operate the Impliment's with and they will only lift and lower as an H-1 Machine. They did offer some with two hydraulic levers which makes them an H-2 machine and gives you Four quick connect port's in the front of the machine. This style enables you to lift or turn a Hydraulic 54" dirt dozer blade, or to Operate a Hydraulic tiller on the tractor. They are of a closed frame design tractor so a rear hydraulic pump would not be able to be used on one. You can how ever place a Hydraulic Model 30 tiller on one if you use one with a belly style pump that fit's up onto the frame right behind the rear wheels. I hope this helps, Hammerdown

They are a base 300K series tractor with a 14 HP Kohler engine. 300K series tractors are pretty tough tractors, the major thing is power steering.

Around here if you can get pretty much any running driving, mowing 300 series for less than 800 to 1000 your doing great.

The $500 price sounds good, even if the tractor isn't in the best condition.

Thanks for the info folks. Of course, as soon as I saw this thing we got orders to Japan, so now I'm not really in the market for this 314 unless I end up wanting a project to work on for the next few years till it would go into service... I have even listed my D160 for sale with all my other goodies so I don't have to make it sit in storage for the next few years. I'd rather someone get to use the darn thing than collect dust! We'll see what happens I guess...
