Does anyone know the purpose of the confinement plate on the underside of the 52" fab deck? On the old GTH is was spot welded on, but the new GT52XLS has it bolted on. I took it off and painted the deck with graphite paint hoping to eliminate the 'clumping'/ build up problem these decks seem to have.:thanku:

Have you noticed any difference in cut quality or clipping discharge? Do you have the power bagger...I would be curious to see it that works the same too?

I would think Husq would put it there for a reason. Maybe post a pic so we know for sure what you're talking about?

As you're probably aware, the 52" fab deck has had a history of clogging problems. This is my second fab deck. The first deck I painted the underside with POV-15 -- I got tired of scraping after (sometimes part way thru) every use. That helped some. Gator blades helped some. The new deck I painted with graphite paint and removed the confinement plate. What a difference! You couldn't ask for a nicer cut and the ONLY accumulation of grass is at the discharge area. Was it the paint, the plate removal or both? I really don't know, I'm just glad it works because at 66 years of age it's getting hard to crawl under there. I don't bag or mulch.
If I knew how I would post a picture. The confinement plate is welded or (now) bolted to the bottom of the deck and runs parallel to the ground at the discharge front side of the deck. It's a 22" long odd shaped piece that varies from 2 to 4 inches wide. I see no reason for it other than to be used in conjunction with something like a bagger.

I personally have no issues with the 52" fab deck clogging but then again 2-3 times a season I pull the deck to replace with sharpened blades and give the deck a good scraping.

The deck seems to be a bone of contention. Some people love it.... others hate it. I'm wondering if part of the problem, for some people, is the type of grass being cut. Even with new blades, scraping the deck, the POR-15 and adjusting the deck the old deck clogged - same grass, basically same deck! So the type of grass can't be my problem. All I know is, with the new deck I'm happy!

But I'd still like to know the purpose of the plate.

It's the only part (besides the blades) that is parallel to the ground in the cutting area! If the deck is off you can't miss it. I believe the older decks are spot welded while on the new decks this piece is bolted on. It's listed on the parts sheet as confinement plate. I vaguely remember reading some people actually cut the piece off - but I could be mistaken.
