I have an older type Murray with 17 hp motor and I think the model # is 46569x92a dont know for sure as the number has rusted off the body . It will run ok on the level but will not pull up a slight incline . I have put a new drive belt on it and tried adjusting the clutch rod , all to no avail . Does the transmission have a replaceable clutch plate and if so how do you change it .:banghead3 :banghead3 :banghead3

If your Murray is like all those I have encountered and owned the clutch idler pulley and belt is the clutch, there are no friction components. Did you check the clutch return spring? This is the only thing that keeps tension on the idler pulley. Also check to make sure your drive axle keys and slots are not broken, worn, or missing. A smaller drive belt may be in order, Murray machines are notorious for not adhering to published belt sizes.

Clutch return spring seems a little week ,but even pulling the clutch pedal back as far as it will go still makes no difference , and the drive belt is tight .

try a new drive belt, it may seem tight but as it gets pressure on it it will slip if it is worn out and or glazed
