If you aren't in a major hurry, I'd wait for a used one on craigslist. They probably aren't in high demand this time of year so you can probably score a great deal. I picked up mine for $25 last summer. Ran great, just needed some bolts. I will admit that I haven't used it much and it is the first one I have owned, but so far so good. Sharpening the blades made a huge improvement.
It is a 5.5HP Tecumseh OHV Simplicity. It looks to be almost exactly the same as the Earthquake chippers sold by TSC. 3" max chipping diameter. The compact design of this style does make it a bit awkward to wheel around over uneven ground, but it has a small storage footprint.
The downside to this design is there is no screen in it to control the size of the output material.
