Charging Battery added hours?

I have a YTH2348 that I got almost 3 months ago from Lowes. I let my brother use the mower to mow my yard and I guess he left the key on because the battery was dead when I went to start the mower the following week. So I hooked it up to my Battery charger for about 15 minutes. We when it had enough juice to start it fired up...the only problem is now that the hour clock shows almost 80 hours!!!! I mow about 2 acres every week, the mower had about 20 hours on it. Why would charging the battery add hours? Is there a way to reverse that?

Im thinking that the hour meter was still going when your brother left the key on. I could be wrong though. And I dont know if theres a way to turn them back or not.
Yupper. When he left the key on, it added hours!!! Same thing happanded to the one we got for my moms place. Has maybe 10 hours total on it... shows 130!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When the key is left on.. the hour meter "thinks" the motor is running :Disgus:

Please don't make the same mistake as Paul did .. running it in reverse won't take the hours off .. :ROF :hide:
I think you can buy new hour meters. If possible buy a new one and switch them out.

Nope... I just unplugged the hour meter. :D :D
thats a great idea, just unplug the hour meter until you get back to the correct amount of hours!! I never would have thought of that!
Thanks guys. I guess I figured the hours would not increase unless the engine is running...I guess I was wrong:fing20: Oh well, thanks for the info.

Ya... only problem at there usedge, it could take 3 years!!!!
I didn't really want to un plug it because, if it was actually accurate it could help me keep track of when I need to do routine mant.
just update your records to show the new readings. then every X hours do the scheduled maintenance. no big deal at all. if it is a few years before you sell/trade the machine, the extra 60 hours will be negligible.
I just did the same thing screwing the with useless light bulb socket in my GT2648. Added 65 hrs
I think I will just unplug it for a year
Gotta remind myself to never buy a used tractor based on low hours......

.....particularly from anyone that hangs around here.:D
