Chance to get a Sunstar...

I have a chance to get a 14HP Sunstar. The guy wants to trade for some Kohler parts for his Cub. He says the Sunstar just quit on him in the middle of the yard 2 yrs ago. Should I go for it? I would also like a little info on the tractor as I can't find any info anywhere...
:thanku:

Well, I don't know much about them...never had one...BUT, I would jump at the chance to give one a try, especially if it was a trade. What are your Kohler parts worth? If his story is true, it's probably an easy fix, unless it was a catastrophic failure of some sort.

Even as parts, they are valuable. =]

The Sunstar was Simplicity's largest GT offering at that time, I think. The 14 was the smallest engine offered, though. The 14 hp was only made in 1988. It had a 42 or 48" deck, with rollers.
14 and 16hp was only 1 year run. I just dont think they offered them the second year. 14 and 16s were single cylinders. No power steering, single range hydros. no diff locks. 42" or 48" decks. Hydraulic lift deck. First year run on Sunstars was 1988.

Edit, dangnabbit Cat, I was typing this when you posted.. :crybaby:

Go for it if you want it... but I still think you should look for an Onan Suburban :hide:
Well, It is just the Electronics he wanted... I was going to give him the whole engine. I would like it, it dosen't have as many options as the 18's or 20's, but I think its still all shaft drive Hydro. I would like to give it a go, if I don't like it I can always trade it for something else.
mower deck or any attachments with it??
Deck, and WW's. Dont think I'm getting it though. Focusing more on my puller.
