When I told my local Toro shop I needed a plug to replace the Champion CJ14 currently in my late 80s Lawnboy Commercial Model 6461 he gave me a NGKBPMR4A. It looks about the same but would feel better if someone out there has used the NGK plug successfully in their 6461. Thanks.

I have not used it in a 6461 but I use them in my 10515's with success. They are a direct replacement for the cj14. It may actually be better than the champion but that is simply an opinion of my own personal taste.

I was told by someone that would know to always runthis plug. For the past several years, I have and have experienced no problems. They are certainly cheap enough.

I think the plug you have noted is a resistor plug. Brad, our super mod, always notes that LB should run a non-resistor type of plug.

From past times, if I run anything other then a CJ14 in any of my Lawn-boys they have a big problem with it. That is just my mowers though. I think some people have had the same with their Lawn-Boys.
use a cj-8 in some of mine with no probs.
NGK makes an excellent plug. However I do use the CJ14's in my Lawn Boys with much success.
the v in my avatar calls for a rj12c

btw fiddlin around here.....

it gave me insight
I'm not sure why one would recommend against a resistor plug. I don't think there's any performance difference between a resistor and a non-resistor plug, and certainly not one that a 4 hp engine would realize, no?
Back in the old days it had something to do with radio interference....when you step on the gas the rpm of the engine would show up in your favorite radio station. On a mower, I don't think it would matter.
Im pretty sure the Duraforce manual says to NOT use a resistor type plug.
i checked the specs on my 10323 on the bench right now, lawnboy sez use the bpmr4a

Yep, that's the plug for the Duraforce. All my F's run great with the CJ14.
Jason,
Resistor plugs used on chainsaws, blowers, mowers etc., have nothing to do with radio interference. The R plug is used to guarantee a real hot spark for EPA air pollution standards. The reason that they are not suggested for the older lawnboy ignition is because it wont fire the R plug. Newer rpm limited digital style chainsaw ignitions are what the R plug is most suited for.
