Hello everyone,
Have a case 446 that has a marred up identification plate. Spent a lot of time trying to bring it back to life but unfortunately it's made of foil probably the worst part of the tractor. Anyways on the top of the block which is an oran the stamped numbers are 170-2812 and a date circle that I think states 78 as the manufacture year. I guestamate it's a 16hp but anyone that could help me discover model # to this would be wonderful.

Your mention of foil makes me think you are looking at the engine tag rather than the tractor. The tractor tag should be on the vertical surface below the steering wheel near the bottom of the tower. Probably stamped 446-xx where xx is the year made. All 446 had 16 hp Onan engines originally, but after all the years it may have been swapped. 16/ 18/ 20 are common.

The 170- is an Onan part number. If the foil tag is on the engine, that may indicate a later swap.

yanots could be looking at the tag of a P series engine.

the 170-xxxx # are CAST #, NOT part #.

a few GOOD pics will tell a lot.

thank you. boomer ( the used onan engine parts guy, also NOS and new )

I've received a great deal of help with this and thank you guys for this. My mistake has been not being specific about what I'm doing. It's the Oran engine that has the missing tag/id plate. I think I've got it identified as a B43m engine. When I bought it there was a carb on it and the previous owner also included another carb. From reading on the forum it seems that most of these carbs cause many of us headaches and has caused me to throw a wrench on an occasion. I have one on there now that has a part number of DD13 Date 78J.
I know there was a series of "DD" carbs and I'm working on making sure I have the correct one for this engine.
Thanks Yanots
