Gentlemen:

Saving a what was almost a basket case 444, new wiring, starter/generator, went completely thru the fuel system, lines, filter, carb... runs like a top, at higher rpm. Cannot make it idle, dies when the throttle is brought back down to the idle postion but picks right back up when throttle is pushed up. Fires up easy but just no idle. Have the Kohler manuals, but nothing I do to the idle screw setting seems to help. Any ideas

Thanks!

Paul:

I suspect you're right...can move the shaft back and forth probably half the width of the shaft. Now... looks like bushings in there or no? Knockouts or must they be drilled out? Will stop in at my local JD dealer who has a pretty darn good tech and parts supply, if they're available maybe I can cure this thing yet

Thanks for the help!

There is no bushing on the carb when new, but you will see a little well on the top of the carb where the bushing sits in. As long as the well is not worn, your good to go.

Here is where I got mine from...

also lots of info on these engines, and carbs.

I redid the one on the 10hp Kohler in my old JD112, and it runs like new!!!
