I have a JD 175 Hydro. It has the Kawasaki 420 motor. The carb has decided that I have to put it up on choke to keep it running. It does ok when I have the throttle about 1/4 of the way up in choke. If you back it off it starts running like crap. Like it has water in the gas. You can {quickly} take it down to low throttle and most of the time it will run down there at idle. Sometimes it dies.

This happened oce before andI took the carb off and it had trash in the bowl. I cleaned it all up and it ran FINE. That was a couple of years ago. It started this a few days ago and I drained all the gas, the bowl, added sea foam and let it run half throttle for a long time and it quit. Today it was worse and got even worse yet. Now it will only run at 1/4 choke and if you slam it down quickly sometimes {most times} it will idle.

Between the two places it will run it acts up bad. Like I have water in the gas. Up and down up and down. The govrenor going back and forth.

I took it off and cleaned the fire out of it with carb cleaner and an air hose. Not one bit better.

Anyone??

How old is the gas?

Is the gas tank vent clogged?

Fuel lines pinched?

Fuel filter clogged?

Have you performed a fuel flow test?

Tested for vacuum leaks?

Are you sure the carb is assembled correctly?

I don't have any experience with this particular engine, but these are some general things that come to mind.

yes.

Was some junk in the jets I guess. I took them apart and blew carb cleaner then air through them. Put it back on for the 4th time and it runs like a new one.

Thanks!
