Removing the two plastic axle spindle caps can be difficult if its a little aged.
Modify two cheap 6" flat screw drivers by bending the tip, approx 1/2" from the tip back toward its self to approx 30 degrees off the shank, creating a hook like tool.
Work the 1st driver w/bent back tip under the cap,s edge, take the 2nd driver and do the same lifting the cap's edge, gently separate the space between the two drivers, sometime pulling on the hook drivers outward to pull the cap's edge over the large flat washers that are retaining the caps.

Installing the same spindle caps can be another pain.
Complete all axle parts assemble and soften the caps, IF the caps do not install on first attemp, warm the caps in the microwave-oven approx 12 seconds, Caution! may be too warm to stretch the cap's edge, let cool a second, may take two passes with the warming trick, use the modified screw driver hooks, stretching the cap's edge over the large flat washers.

Those same modified screw driver hooks can be used also in removing the wheel plastic caps. :fing32:
