I recently picked up an older craftsman from one of my customers. It has a 36" deck, 4-speed manual, and 11 HP briggs (which is now seized)

I have looked everywhere and can't find any model numbers or anything on this mower. I replaced the 11 HP briggs with a spare 11 hp briggs sitting in the shed and I am almost done getting it to run perfectly, I would like to find some manuals for this thing though. Nobody online has anything and Sears hasn't even heard of a 36" 4-speed from what I think is a 1988? or 1998?

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

OK, I'm sure someone will recognize it and know where you should look for the badge plate. That tractor looks like it was stored indoors.
I don't think it was possible to be handled better.. It's been sitting in a garage its entire life and cleaned after every single use.

Along with my '67 snapper comet that looks like it just rolled out of the store:) http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=85569

It's just to bad the PO didn't pay as good attention to the dipstick, assuming oil (or lack thereof) caused the demise. Anyway, nice looking find.
My previous co-worker had the 11 hp sitting in our shed and he said if I didn't take it, it was going in the trash, so I didn't put a penny into it.

The owner said if I didn't want the mower, that was going in the trash too..if I didn't take it...who knows where that thing would have gone. The condition is worth the space it's taking up in the garage.

I'd guess its a "LTV" series..I may have an owners manual for one like that,I'll look at it next time I'm in my garage..if it looks like yours I'll post the model number here..
Thanks to the "LTV" information, I went searching around online and found out what it is.

I determined that I have a Craftsman LT 11 HP 4 Speed 36 Inch Mower Lawn Tractor

Model-917.254274

I appreciate everyones input :)

I'll look tomorrow and see if that manual I have is the right one..didn't go in the garage today,sorry..but at least you evidently found the model number on it somewhere, and now know what you have!..hope yours is just a 4 speed, without the "variable pulley" setup (thats what the "V" in an LTV stands for, they were often troublesome)...seeing yours is an "LT" ,I assume its just a straight 4 speed model .

That thing looks brand new!..doesn't surprise me someone was going to toss it in the metal pile at the dump though..people here are weird sometimes--some toss perfectly useable or repairable things in good shape away, and others who have a rusted POS want 150 bucks with a blown motor or tranny..I dont understand them at all!..I often see better looking tractors in the "free" section on craigslist than I do for SALE in the "farm and garden" listings!..you got two good scores free, the tractor and the motor to get it going again..like they say,one mans "junk"....

I printed out the manual for the exact model last night. Yes, it is just a LT not the LTV series. I'm going to throw the new engine in it tomorrow at sometime so I'll post pack with the results.
