C20CPR problems

Hello everyone,

My C20CPR has been having some problems. I've been starting it up every once in awhile just for fun the past couple of weeks. The high speed setting didn't work. Then today when I fired it up, the high speed setting worked. (This is a choke model by the way.) Then, I tried mowing with it a little. It would run ok, then out of no where, it would rev up real high and then it would continue to run ok again and then repeat the same process. What's wrong and how can I fix it?

Thanks in advanced!:fing32:

check out the carb and the lower seal....
The oil seals upper and lower are fine. I'll check out the carb.:thanku:
Yeah, I'd pull the carb off and give it a good going through
It must be a Walboro. I'll bet there is something moving around in the main circuit (small piece of debris)
UPDATE- I just did a conversion on the C20CPR. Which means, I took all of the choke carb junk off and put a good 2 speed primer carb on it (I like these carbs ALOT better than the choke carbs, as I think that they are more reliable). And I even made the conversion look "factory". It fired with 5 primes on the first pull and ran good. Then after a little, it slowed down and repeated the same process and problem as the choke carb did. It now runs real slow and won't respond to the high speed setting. It also smokes BADLY. What is up? All of the oil seals seem fine on the block. I need help! Thanks in advanced!

Don't forget to check the muffler and exhaust ports.
If it's running badly, loss of power and smoking, I'd lean up the carb alittle, sounds like its running too rich.

It's the altitude adjust only Walbro. Hope you can lean it out.

I switched the Walbro carb out with a 2-speed Lawn-Boy plastic primer carb.....

They are all good. I went through this whole mower..... I didn't do anything internal though..... I think the carb that I put on it (2 speed plastic carb) today might have given me problems before.:fing20: I'll try another carb tomorrow.

You can't adjust mixture on that carb either can you? Check your float height though.

I might just throw another 2-speed plastic carb on it. I have lots of them anyways.:fing20:
This might be simplistic...but check the plug and gap. If it runs good for awhile sounds like something is moving in the carb or getting sucked intot the carb or fouling. Are you sure your gas tank is CLEAN inside and there's not a clump of schmootz making its way into each carb?

I will check all of those things just to be sure! Thanks George!:fing32:

Did you remove the muffler and check for carbon? Carbon buildup will cause these symptoms. Check the exhaust ports and the muffler holes.

As I said, I just went through this whole mower, except the internals, so it can't be that..... I will try a different carb.
