Weighing out our needs and hopping between the x750 and x758. Either way, i am gathering quotes on both currently. I have never bought new before so I am not sure what to expect to pay. Called a couple jd dealerships and was quoted retail prices. For those of you that have gone this route, are you finding better prices than full retail? Thank you in advance!

Yes, it's possible to do better than full retail; however, most dealers won't "deal" on them because they simply don't have to (enough people are after them, they don't really have any competition, and there's nice financing incentives). Keep in mind that they aren't making much in the first place (on the tractor itself). That said, it doesn't hurt to shop around; it was certainly worth while for me (fortunately there's 6+ dealers with at least 4 different owners within 45min of me).

A good target is 85-90% of msrp. Keep shopping around if your local dealer won't come down from full retail.

If you strike out locally, you could inquire at Mutton Power (they will deliver) or Bees Sports. At least then you wil have some data points for comparison.

If you are unhappy with the prices you are quoted all around, you might do a sanity check and compare the X7 with a Kubota BX1870 (or 2370 if you need the extra hp for some reason.) A BX comes standard with on-demand 4WD, rear-pto, and 3PH. You would save several thousand dollars over a comparable X7. But if the drive-over auto-connect mower deck is an important feature to you, the BX does not offer this option.

Try Roeder Power (www.lawnpower.com), located in Dubuque, Ia. If you can't find a deal on a new one there, they have a ton of low hour used equipment, and advertise free delivery. I guess there's a JD plant near them, and they get a lot of low hour, late model trades; maybe could save a few bucks there also.

I got a very good deal on the two X750's that I bought. There was also the 500 coupon plus 200 dealer incentive and I ended up right at $10,050 or something like that with the 60" deck and auto connect.

I don't know about the X750, but I purchased my X758 with a 54" HC deck, rear Click-N-Go hitch and Weight Bracket, plus a rear receiver hitch for $12,000 even.

I am sure my dealer still made money on that sale, so the dealers that are charging full list prices are certainly making a very good profit on their sales.

In this example, it looks like you paid about 84-86% of the retail price, which is right in that target range.:thThumbsU

The X758 has some very nice features (standard all-wheel-drive, optional auto-connect decks, etc). But to put the price in perspective, about the same amount of money would pruchase a BX1870 with a mower deck, front-end-loader, more powerful hydraulics, 4WD, rear pto, and 3PH!

Yes, your right. I even visited my Kubota dealer before I committed to buying the JD X758 and I was offered a very good deal on a BX series. But for my purposes, I bought what I knew was the best fit for my needs and wants. By the way I do own a Kubota L4200 GST, which has been trouble free for years, ever since I purchased it new.

I think those who say the dealers don't make much/any money on the X700s are being naive. Sure they don't make the same kind of money as they would by selling a combine, but I'm pretty sure there is profit built into the list price.

If you think the margins on these tractors are big, you likely haven't had to pay overhead costs for your own business. "Not much" is a relative term; there's nothing naive about it. Charging full list price on a new XUV, for example, yields the dealer a few hundred bucks; upselling the customers with accessories is the only chance they have at really making money.

Also, I bought my '11 tractor with the dealer making a couple of hundred bucks; there was not any persuasion involved, though. I asked one time for each dealer to give me their best price; one dealer returned a good price and they got the business that same day (and realized that the sale would likely yield them more business in the future).

I didn't say I thought the profits were big, I'm just saying there is bound to be some profit at list price. I've heard too many pleas of "you're killing me" and yet the dealers somehow manage to stay in business. It's all a game.

I definitely agree that there are plenty of good reasons to buy an X7 -- I'd like to have one someday myself. So I'm definitely not second-guessing your purchase decision (or anyone else's.) I would think in your case, an X7 is an especially good choice in a mower since you already have a compact utility tractor to handle tractor chores.

I just wanted to mention the BX option to Mulewhisperer in case he/she was unaware of it. When someone new comes along asking about X7 pricing and ways to get a better deal, I usually mention the BX1860/70 because it is comparable in size, is a very capable machine, and represents a tremendous value. Also, the BX is more versatile in many respects, so if someone only has a single tractor for mowing and heavier chores, it might make a better choice than an X7. If nothing else it is a good data point when making comparisons.

1023E or 1025R OWNS the BX 'bota and would offer the same value proposition.

A comparably equipped 1026r would cost about $4-5K more than a BX1860. A 1023e would be about $2-2.5K more. So whether they represent the "same value" would depend on how you rate the extra hp, transmission oil cooler, and plastic parts on the 1023e. Also, the 1-Series is quite a bit larger than a BX1860, so doesn't match the size class of the X7 very well.
