Thanks for the review Toolin. I've been thinking of getting the 48" Brinly but not sure about sufficient penetration for my somewhat compacted clay soil.
Consumer Reports state that for compacted soil the job is best left to specialists that "use piston-driven aerators with tines that move straight up and down"... "rather than the less-effective lightweight aerators found at rental yards".
Actually my lawn grows pretty well (generally comparatively cool summers and north-facing slope) so maybe my heavy clay soil as heavy isn't as envisioned.
