I want to mount a plow in the slot hitch on the back of a WH. What is the correct way to mount it side to side?

I guess I do not understand the question.
Once the plow is in the slot...it "is" located side to side.
Do you have the slot-hitch adapter for the Brinley plow?

It has been welded together with the adapter. There are three holes in the adapter. It appears that originally it could be moved left or right. I also have access to a Sears plow which has no adapter.

Those are Left and right adjustments, there should be bolts through the outer two holes with a nut on each side of the plate. This allows you to adjust left/right and tighten it so it does not "flop around" on your hitch.

Here is a photo of the slot hitch adapter. (foreground).
And in the back you can see a single hole "drop sleeve" adapter for
the brinley plow. You likely have the 3-hole drop sleeve adapter (wider than one shown)
The "slot hitch adapter" fits into the drop sleeve adapter and is adjusted
with the bolts shown horizontal in the plate.

Okay, it appears that someone took a piece of bar stock and welded it directly to the drop sleeve adapter. Next week when I get back to the plow I'll take photos of it.
