I have a Briggs 8hp (190702 date code 75) with no spark that came on a Snapper I bought a couple of years ago. It has not run since I have had it so today I got it out to see if I could figure out what was wrong. I have disconnected kill wire, changed plugs, set coil air gap at .012, changed points and condenser and set gap at .020. Is there a way to check this coil with a volt ohm meter? If so how. The flywheel key looks good.

Do yourself a huge favor...briggs points are the worst, and that coil looks like one Ive personally had tons of trouble with (yellow windings).

Leave the points as they are, and get a Briggs Magnetron coil, it has its own built in trigger device that does away with the points and stuff. Just one wire to the plug, and one to the kill circuit...
