Hi All
Ive got a 1974 Briggs and Stratton 8 hp with a Zenith carb. Has not run in a long time. I get a spark and I cleaned the carb. cleaned the gas tank new gas line.
I pull the cord and all it will do is a pop through the carb. Sometimes it will run for a few seconds then die. Can somebody help me figure out this problem ?
Thank you

How good is that spark? Yellowish? Orangish? Should be blue and snappy. If the spark is ok you might try a new spark plug. If that dont do it, it's likely carburation.

My old late '40's to early '50's Clinton engine did that...it sat in the barn for 39 years until I worked on it a couple of weeks ago. Probably took 30 pulls of the rope start before it finally caught. I did have to regap the points and put a new plug in. After I did that, had a nice blue spark and it started running. It did die a few times but continually cranking it it finally smoothed and stayed running.
