I am trying to get my mother-in-law's craftsman gt5000 w/ 22hp b&s to start.
I have narrowed it down to the carb, as fuel in the intake and in the cylinders both will fire the engine. It is not getting gas through the carb. Does anyone have a good breakdown of how to take apart the carb and what usually clogs in them? I took it off the engine yesterday, but tried to get the bowl off, but the two brass screw heads wanted to strip out.

Any diagrams/suggestions would be great!

Thanks

Probably the anti-diesel solenoid on the bottom of the bowl stuck or has gone bad...if it clearly "clicks" when the key is turned from OFF to RUN (not start)...then it's probably fine.

Best to use a pair of very small channel locks on those screws...I use some from NAPA (work there) they are about 4" end to end, and are perfect for removing those screws.

I just had a similar problem. My solenoid was bad. Buy it from jackssmallengines.com. They're the cheapest. Local shop wanted $92, SearsPartsDirect wanted around $70. Jacks had them in the high $46.17
