My briggs 18.5hp is leaking oil from somewhere behind the head and i'm not sure where. Hoping someone here could help out.

Also the the steering gear is messed up and only lets me turn left. Any help or tips there would also be appreciated.

Thanks!

Looks like the Oppposed Twin cylinder engine.....

For leaks on those engines, the sump gasket is the usual culprit, or the rear crank plate can leak too.

For the steeringm replace the worn steering shaft/gear, and the shaft bushing/block that the shaft twists on...fun fun fun..trust me.

That can be a scarry process for the newby. Sump gasket is the seal between the bottom and top of the engine. You have to pull the engine, pull the drive pully's and take the bottom of the engine loose to change the gasket. It isnt bad to change the oil seal while your at it. Just for kicks, see if that oil drain pipe is loose. If it is THAT can be your oil leak problem too. Thats much simple if it is. Just means draining the oil (which will happen anyway when you take the pipe loose) take the fittings loose, get some plumbers tape and put the fittings back togeather snugly.
